A Tiny Hemp House

Illinois Hemp Growers Association

Recently, CEO of the IHGA Rachel Berry and I were commissioned to build another 1/12th scale model of a hempcrete house. This time we are taking the project much further than the last model we did which was shown at the iHemp Expo in Michigan.

  • For this model, the client wanted it built on a hemp wood base sealed with hemp oil using Hempwood

  • The client selected Ecologic hempcrete binder

  • The “mini 2x4s” are still cut from stock cedar 1x4 lumber

  • The client also chose materials for a semi-furnished and decorated interior using 100% hemp-based textiles including carpet, upholstry, and window treatments.

This is a work in progress, but we are proud to report this project is coming along nicely. Look for another update on the completion of this project soon!

Who Needs Fiber/Dual Seed?

We are going to purchase hemp fiber/dual seed this month for use on our farm this year. We are getting the seed from the same source we used last year.

We will be launching a YouTube channel to accompany this season's grow with weekly videos showing everything from planting through harvest, decortication, and end usage. The IHGA invites you to join the experiment and grow some fiber for yourself along with us.

If you want some reliable seed for fiber or dual purpose crops, we can buy some for you when we order so we can all save on a bulk purchase. Call us or email the IHGA if you are interested. We will be ordering soon!

NOCO Hemp Expo Postponed!

While the news that NOCO has been postponed is disappointing, there is a hemp event happening in Southern Illinois that can fill that newly cleared spot on your calendar – The Southern Illinois Hemp Symposium!

The Southern Illinois Hemp Symposium will be practical and informative whether you are an experienced grower or a beginner. There will be numerous vendors demonstrating their equipment and products. There will be key speakers from Illinois and Kentucky offering knowledge on certified seed, seed bed preparation, insect and disease control, irrigation, fertilization, flowering, sex identification, lab sampling, harvesting, drying, storage, the chemistry behind processing, and marketing.
